After 30 home games, Chris Woodward talks how the Rangers can utilize Globe Life Field in their favor

Texas Rangers manager Chris Woodward joined the K&C Masterpiece on 105.3 The FAN [KRLD-FM] recently for his final chat of 2020. Here are some highlights, edited for clarity:

Having now played 30 games at Globe Life Field, how important is it for the club to develop great outfield defense? In what areas can the Rangers better use their new confines?

Chris Woodward: “Yeah, it’s really important. And we obviously emphasized that by making the moves we did. Bringing up Leody Taveras and Eli White. Nick Solak did a fine job when he was in the outfield, but when you’ve got Taveras, White and Joey Gallo in the outfield, as big as that place is … I think towards the end of the year it started playing a little smaller than it did in the beginning, but it’s a big outfield. Lot of ground to cover, and when you have those

Chiefs’ Tyrann Mathieu talks self-motivation, defensive improvements

The Kansas City Chiefs are off to a perfect 2-0 to start the season, but things haven’t been as smooth as they may seem. The defending Super Bowl champions haven’t looked as impressive on the defensive sides as they have hoped to head into the year.

The most significant change outside of Arrowhead Stadium has been the pack of crowd noise. Last Sunday’s victory over the Los Angeles Chargers was an unusual experience for Tyrann Mathieu and the Chiefs defense. Mathieu spoke with reporters on Friday about the new no crowd experience and how the team handled it.

”Yeah, it’s quite the adjustment,” said Mathieu, ”Obviously, not being able to play in front of fans. I feel like that definitely gave us a boost of encouragement, but we’ve got to adjust, we’ve got to adapt. I think a lot has to come from within, and then from there it’s us

Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus talks massive improvements in Week 2, Julian Blackmon’s debut, sudden change at CB & more

» The major improvements defensively from Game 1 to Game 2 simply came down to attention to detail and execution: The Colts’ defense in their 2020 opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars allowed quarterback Gardner Minshew II to dink and dunk his way down the field all afternoon, as evidenced by his 19-of-20 passing completions; Indy also had plenty of miscommunications and other mental mistakes, as evidenced by Minshew II’s three passing touchdowns.

But Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins would have no such luck last Sunday against the Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium; he completed just 11-of-26 passes for 113 yards with zero touchdowns and three interceptions, while the Colts also shut down Pro Bowl running back Dalvin Cook, who had just 14 rushing attempts for 63 yards.

In all, the Indy defense not only had the three picks against the Vikings, but it limited Minnesota to just 175 yards of
