SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — Three towns are finally seeing improvements long promised to the Irvington Avenue corridor that traverses South Orange, Maplewood, and Newark.

Essex County has begun construction “to modernize Irvington Avenue,” the County said in a statement. Essex County will be updating crosswalks, curbs, lighting and trash receptacles along Irvington Avenue. 

The plan was presented to the public a year ago, and it was originally scheduled to have been completed this past spring.

South Orange’s website lists that their streets affected are the following: 

• Tichenor Avenue and Riggs Place
• Fairview Avenue and W. Fairview Avenue
• College Place and Waverly Place

The list of streets affected in Maplewood and Newark were not immediately available.
