D-FW home starts are up by more than a third from last year.

Dallas-Fort Worth single-family home starts soared by more than 34% in the third quarter from a year earlier, rising in the face of the pandemic and recession. Builders started almost 13,000 local houses during the just-completed quarter, according to just-released data from Residential Strategies Inc.

“It’s pretty amazing considering the backdrop of COVID.”

Wilson said the third-quarter D-FW home starts were the strongest since

By Guy Faulconbridge and Estelle Shirbon

LONDON (Reuters) – British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will tell people on Tuesday to work from home where possible and will curb timings for bars and restaurants to tackle a fast-spreading second coronavirus wave, but the opposition accused him of losing control.

With millions across the United Kingdom already under some form of COVID-19 restriction, Johnson will tighten measures in England while stopping short of another full lockdown like he imposed in March, according to his office and ministers.

Johnson will hold emergency meetings with ministers, address parliament at 1130 GMT and then speak to the nation at 1900 GMT after government scientists warned that the death rate would soar without urgent action.

Just weeks after urging people to start returning to workplaces, Johnson will now advise them to stay at home if they can, according to his office and ministers. He will also

Android 11 starts rolling out today with improvements to notifications, privacy, 5G, and more

The first Developer Preview for Android 11 landed in February of this year, and Google has continued to iterate and add new features across several more Developer Previews and Betas. As revealed earlier this summer at the start of Google’s “11 weeks of Android” promotion, the stable version of Android 11 has arrived, ready for public consumption and rolling out to Google Pixel devices.

Google said in an announcement today, “from adjusting our APIs to ease [compatibility], changes from your Beta feedback, even little goodies like Kotlin nullability enhancements, we’ve worked really hard to make it a stronger release for developers like you. We hope you like it as much as we do, and wanted to extend a special thank you for all of your work, even as we all found new ways of working together.”

As expected, the final Android 11 build doesn’t have any new features or major

City starts $810,000 renovation project at Oneula Beach Park this week

  • COURTESY HONOLULU DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION

Reconstruction of the access road and parking lots at Oneula Beach Park is to begin this week.

A capital improvement project to reconstruct the access road and parking lots at Oneula Beach Park in Ewa Beach is scheduled to begin this week, city officials said, and expected to be done by spring.

The popular park, also known as Hau Bush, currently remains closed due to COVID-19 mitigation efforts, although standalone comfort stations and outdoor showers remain open during regular hours.

The approximately $810,000 project — awarded to Peterson Bros. Construction Inc. – includes new, seal-coated asphalt pavement, concrete sidewalks and curbs, traffic signs and speed bumps, and Americans with Disabilities Act parking stall improvements. Five kiawe trees damaging the roadway will also be removed.

When done, the three renovated parking lots will offer nearly 60 regular and five ADA-compliant stalls.

During the project,
