Irish Locals Show Their Colours In Biden’s Ancestral Home

Thousands of miles east of the White House in Ireland, a pop-art portrait of US presidential candidate Joe Biden towers over his ancestral hometown of Ballina, County Mayo.

In the town on Ireland’s rugged Atlantic coast, the Democrat’s distant relatives are thrilled to have one of their own bidding for America’s highest office.

“Obviously we’re 100 percent behind Joe Biden,” Laurita Blewitt, the former vice-president’s third cousin, told AFP.

“We’ve got that family connection and we’ve got that friendship and relationship with him,” the 37-year-old said.

Biden’s family roots run deep in Ireland, with a heritage described as “roughly five-eighths Irish” by genealogist Megan Smolenyak.

She has traced his lineage to east-coast County Louth and Ballina — a town of 10,000

The South Florida Fair has announced it will be hosting it’s first-ever Home Improvement & More Show in the Expo Center at the end of October.

The Fair said they created the event because people are spending more time in their homes because of the coronavirus pandemic.

“Given what we’ve been experiencing since March with this pandemic, there has never been such a high demand for at-home enhancements in kitchens and baths, lawn and landscape, décor and home office ideas,” said Vicki Chouris, president & CEO of the South Florida Fair & Palm Beach County Expositions.

There are more than 60 vendors slated to be at the event that include categories such as windows, kitchen, bath, patios, landscaping, and more.

Kevin O’Connor will appear at the Dispatch Home and Garden Show

Steve Stephens

| The Columbus Dispatch

The long-time host of “This Old House,” the ground-breaking home-improvement television show, will appear — virtually — at the Fall Dispatch Home & Garden Show on Saturday.

Kevin O’Connor, who has been host of the PBS show since 2003, last appeared at the Columbus show two years ago. On that occasion he was here in person, of course.

“I do a lot of home shows, but this is my first virtual one,” said O’Connor, 52.

“But I think people understand why that’s necessary this year, and know exactly what to expect.”

Because of the pandemic, this year’s home and garden show will be online and on demand. The show will be live online Thursday through Saturday and the online exhibit hall will remain open through the end of the month.

Register for the show at DispatchHomeandGardenShow.com. Guests who pre-register by Wednesday will receive one

LSU Football Quarterback Myles Brennan “Motivated” to Show Improvements After Week One Loss

The critiques on Myles Brennan and his first performance as a starter for LSU were varied. While the Tigers’ quarterback looked uncomfortable at times in the pocket and missed a few receivers down field, coach Ed Orgeron saw many positives in the performance as well.

Brennan threw for 345 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions in the loss to the Bulldogs. On the surface those numbers aren’t bad but what the program and it’s fans have come to expect from the quarterback position has changed drastically in the last year.

When meeting with SEC media reporters on Wednesday, Orgeron said that Brennan flashed his immense potential against the Bulldogs and now it’s about getting that consistency on the right track.

“Myles made some big plays, he made some big throws down the field, scored 27 on offense,” Orgeron said. “But there are some things he can get better at. We’re

‘You’re in labour aren’t you?’: eventer welcomes baby son straight after show

An eventer who went into labour while attending a show has welcomed a healthy baby son, having made it to the hospital in the nick of time.

Cheshire-based Bonnie Fishburn had been at a show four miles from home with her husband Tom Hollins and miniature Shetland pony Mr Pegs on 20 September – a week before Bonnie’s due date.

“I woke up after midnight and it felt like I was having contractions 20 minutes apart. I had been having Braxton Hicks [false labour pains] earlier in the week so I put it down to the same thing and thought it was a false alarm,” Bonnie told H&H.

“At 6am I got up and bathed Mr Pegs for the show, didn’t tell Tom or my mum Lynn what had happened and we carried on to the show.”

Bonnie said as the morning progressed, the intervals between contractions became shorter.
