Keir Starmer refuses to condemn police investigation into Darren Grimes

Sir Keir Starmer has refused to criticise the criminal investigation into interviewer Darren Grimes, saying that “there is a line that can be crossed”. When asked whether the police should be investigating the conservative commentator for a remark Dr David Starkey made during an interview, the former Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) said that when the line was crossed there should be “involvement” and “in some cases prosecutions” He made the comments just hours after one of his predecessors as DPP, Lord Macdonald of River Glaven, said that the investigation looked like a “political stunt” which was “sinister and foolish”. The comments put Mr Starmer at odds with figures from across the political divide who have warned of the impact that the investigation could have on freedom of speech, which Home Secretary Priti Patel said it was “important”

Design: Here’s how to think about decorating your living room

Open-concept living spaces—like in this condo in the Blum building—offer different decorating challenges than formal living rooms did long ago. (Photo courtesy of Everhart Studio)

The living room has historically been an over-decorated room used mainly to receive and impress visitors. This room was a status symbol for outside guests, which is why the decor was typically dressed up or done to the nines.

But the American living room has changed a lot in the last two or three decades. In today’s homes, we see less and less the idea of a formal living room—aside from older homes or exceptionally large homes, where square footage and budgets are of no consequence. For the rest of us, lifestyles have evolved, and formal living rooms are things of the past.

Today’s living room has morphed into a grouping of several different rooms into one. The living room, dining room and kitchen have

Lorella design offers spacious living room | Current Prices

An intriguing three-step hipped roof crowns the Lorella, a small home with a surprisingly spacious living room. Its stately brick column works with the brick detailing on the garage to create an attractive frame for the front door and sidelight.

This plan’s narrow footprint, a mere 40 feet in width, allows for construction on a small lot, deeper than it is wide.

Parents with young children will appreciate the close proximity of the bedrooms, all on the right. Bathrooms, utilities, and closets placed down the middle do double duty, serving as sound buffers between the sleeping rooms and the typically noisier active living areas.

Standing in front of the living room’s gas fireplace, you can gaze outside in three directions. Wide multipaned windows fill most of the front wall, sliders at the rear look out across a patio, and another set of windows flanks the fireplace. On days when you

The content streaming wars come home: Who’ll win your living room – Google, Apple or Amazon?

This week, on the heels of Apple’s and Amazon’s product announcements, Google held its fall devices event, which introduced a handful of products that many people have highly anticipated for a long time.

What does it mean for consumers? My main takeaway from all of this, especially if you bring it into context with what Amazon and Apple have rolled out over the last month, is it’s evident that a content and services war is about to be waged. Consumers will have to make important decisions about what ecosystems they want to be part of and which services go along with those ecosystems.

Let’s run down what the fronts of this upcoming war are going to look like — and it’s all going to be played out in your living room.

Living Room Ideas That Will Liven Up Any Space, Big Or Small – Living Rooms

Photographed by Amy Bartlam.

When we hear the words “living room makeover,” many of us think a few cans of paint and a new sofa — and don’t get us wrong, those two things can work wonders. But creating a welcoming, tranquil space is about so much more than the colors and the furniture. It’s about combining practicality with aesthetic so you can enjoy living in and looking at it at the same time.

Before you go down a rabbit hole of living room ideas you’ll want to figure out how much space you’re working with. Measuring a room beforehand can save you tons of headaches down the road: You’ll know how many buckets of paint to buy, you can compare your space to similar-sized rooms on the internet, and you can think realistically about that oversized coffee table — before you have a chance to get too attached.

Sabin on Sports: Brady still sees room for improvement after Buccaneers win at home – Sports Talk Florida

Bucs Reporter

What a difference a week makes: Tampa Bay wins their first game of the season at home against the Carolina Panthers.

___________________________________________________________________________

There was clear improvement by the Buccaneers in week 2 as they beat the Panthers 31-17, but Quarterback Tom Brady reports that they still need to work on execution. He reflected after the game saying, “we are still a long way from where we need to be.”

Brady did acknowledge there “were a lot of good runs and we’re doing a good job blocking,” but he was not quite ready to say the offense has found their rhythm yet.

They certainly found a better rhythm compared to last week against the Saints, including Mike Evans who had a 50-yard passing play in the first quarter which set up running back Ronald Jones II for a touchdown.  During that same play last week Evans stopped short on

This Historic Chicago Home Makes a Case for Pink In Every Room

When Jen Talbot took on the remodel of a three-story home in the Chicago neighborhood of Hyde Park, she knew she was in for a challenge: The 120-year-old house was badly damaged and in need of a total gut renovation. But Talbot, a designer known for her minimal, sculptural aesthetic, was more than prepared to meet the moment.

Built in 1900, the house was located in the diverse area surrounding the University of Chicago that’s filled with turn-of-the-century beauties. (It also happens to be where the Obamas live when they’re in town.) “The husband is a history professor at the University of Chicago and the wife is an acclaimed writer with a book landing on Oprah’s Must-read List,” Talbot says of new owners, who have two young children. “They had spent years walking past the
