Sweltering heat, power outages greet Louisiana evacuees returning from Hurricane Delta
LAKE CHARLES, La. (Reuters) – Storm-weary coastal Louisiana residents who fled from the path of Hurricane Delta in recent days streamed back to their homes on Sunday to face cleanup and repairs from the second hurricane to batter their state over the past six weeks.
Many returned to find that Delta, dissipating substantially as it drifted farther inland on Sunday, had ripped away temporary tarpaulin roofs installed over their homes in late August after Hurricane Laura, a more powerful storm, struck with devastating force.
Delta, the 10th named storm of the 2020 Atlantic hurricane season to make U.S. landfall, churned ashore on Friday evening near the southwestern Louisiana town of Creole as a Category 2 hurricane on the five-step Saffir-Simpson intensity scale, packing maximum sustained winds

LAKE CHARLES, La. (Reuters) – Louisianans continued storm cleanup on Sunday after Hurricane Delta rolled through the region on Friday, as more returned to survey damage to their homes, having waited out the storm elsewhere.
Delta made landfall near the town of Creole in Cameron Parish early Friday evening as a Category 2 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale, packing sustained winds of 100 miles per hour (160 km per hour).
By Sunday the storm had weakened to a post-tropical cyclone, but continued to be a heavy rainfall threat, the National Hurricane Center said.
The storm knocked out power for more than half a million customers and compounded damage from the more powerful Hurricane Laura, which devastated the region in August.

Girls with Power Tools remodeling company gives homes, communities a facelift
Ruth Haller was on her hands and knees, crawling as she pulled the heavy-duty construction material up from the floor of the home she is remodeling in Barrio Logan.
“As you can see, it’s not glamorous,” she said of the work.
The teacher-turned-renovator now runs a home-remodeling company called Girls with Power Tools with her friend, Pamela Macias.
The pair have been working on the South 26th Street home for more than a month. They plan to finish next week and place the 1930s Craftsman up for sale.
The work is not all for profit.
The Girls with Power Tools proprietors plan to use 10 percent of the proceeds from the sale of the home to purchase laptop computers for students in the neighborhood or in other parts of San Diego. They are also considering purchasing wireless internet cards for needy families.
Haller will dedicate another 10 percent to Guitars
Mitsubishi Power Completes Renovation of Generating Facilities at Otake Geothermal Power Station
YOKOHAMA, Japan, Oct 5, 2020 – (JCN Newswire) – Mitsubishi Power, a major subsidiary of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) Group, has completed its renovation of the Otake Geothermal Power Station (Kokonoe-machi, Oita Prefecture) operated by Kyushu Electric Power Company. Commercial operation of the renovated facility began in October 2020. The stable electric power supply generated by the highly efficient and reliable steam turbine installed as part of this renovation project will curb CO2 emissions, and contribute to a decarbonized economy.

This renovation project was conducted under an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract by a joint venture comprising Mitsubishi Power, which supplied the steam turbine, Mitsubishi Power Industries Co., Ltd., which handled the supply and installation of auxiliary equipment, and Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, which supplied the generator and electrical facilities.
The power generation system utilizes a “double flash and dual pressure” method, the first of its type in Japan. This

Power Home Remodeling co-CEO Asher Raphael thinks the office is irreplaceable. He’s right: You can’t play ping pong from your home office! Photos courtesy of Power Home Remodeling.
When you think of stereotypically “utopian” workplaces, your mind likely heads straight to Silicon Valley startups, flush with juice bars, mini-golf putting greens, gigantic slides, you get the idea. Where your mind almost certainly doesn’t go is to a home remodeling company. And yet, Power Home Remodeling, based in Chester, is routinely ranked as one of the top workplaces in the country. Do they have a slide? No. But there are ping pong tables! Perhaps even more impressively, they take their employees (some 1,800 people) on an
