Woman gives birth in truck on highway

    NORTH SALT LAKE, UT (KSL) — A woman gave birth in a truck early Friday morning along U.S. Highway 89 with only her husband present to help deliver the baby.

Mariah Simmonds said her plan was to have her baby naturally at a birth center, but the contractions began to increase unexpectedly late Thursday evening.

“I called the midwife and said, ‘What should we do? Should we come in?’ and she said, ‘Go take a bath and see if they calm down and if your contractions calm down, we’ll meet up a little later.’”

Simmonds said the contractions slowed to 12 minutes apart before she went to bed around midnight.

Around 1 a.m. Friday, Simmonds woke up and the contractions had intensified once again. Her husband, Kirk Simmonds, encouraged her to get going.

State Highway 3/Napier Rd improvements to go ahead

A plan to improve safety on State Highway 3/Napier Rd is moving ahead, with funding secured for detailed design and consenting work.

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is developing a package of safety improvements along a 3.4km section of Napier Rd, between Keith St and Stoney Creek Rd, and including Roberts Line intersection.

Regional relationships director Emma Speight says the improved saftey of the road will go ahead following investigation and consultation on options.

“I’m pleased that we can now move into the detailed design and consenting phase of this project.”

“This is a positive step towards making the road safer and more accessible for the everyone.

“We’ve had lots of feedback from locals who say the area feels unsafe, and we’ve taken their feedback into consideration when making decisions about ways that we can improve safety.

Much needed improvements coming to Highway 501 and East Cox Ferry Road

SCDOT is working on improvements to one of the most dangerous intersections in the county.

Between backed up traffic down Highway 501, to last-minute lane changes before a confusing intersection, Highway 501 and East Cox Ferry Road in Conway can be an everyday headache for Horry County drivers.

But it’s not just a headache. It can be deadly.

Officials with the South Carolina Department of Public Safety said in 2017, 2018, and 2019, throughout each year, there were over 100 accidents at the intersection. In 2019, a person was killed.

But the DOT said upgrades are coming.

“So anytime we look at improving intersections we look at a lot of these same type of corrective measures. As far as offsetting left-turn lanes, adding additional turn lanes,”

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) – Plans are in the works to make a notorious intersection along Highway 501 safer.

Officials with the South Carolina Department of Transportation revealed that improvements will be made to the intersection of Highway 501 and Cox Ferry Road during the widening project.

Numbers from the city of Conway show that from 2017 to 2019, there were more than 100 accidents at the intersection.

Highway 96 improvements will affect Robins Air Force Base

The improvements will stretch for seven miles in Twiggs County in an area that helps connect I-16 and I-75.

WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — Improvements coming to Highway 96 in Twiggs County thanks to millions of dollars from The U.S. Department of Transportation. The project will have a direct impact on Robins Air Force Base.

Over 24,000 people head to work on Robins Air Force Base every day, so the project, which will widen parts of the highway from two lanes to four lanes, will ease access for people driving to Warner Robins.

The improvements will stretch for seven miles in Twiggs County in an area that helps connect I-16 and I-75.

Minister to open highway renovation work

Public Works Department Minister G.Sudhakaran will inaugurate the renovation work of the Kerala’s part of the Ooty-Kozhikode inter-State highway at Vaduvanchal at 11.30 a.m. on Friday through video-conferencing.

The highway, from Ripon to Choladi on the Kerala Tamil Nadu border, would be renovated at a cost of ₹12 crore under the Rebuild Kerala programme.
