Grand Palais’s Renovation Scaled Back in Wake of Covid-19

The hotly anticipated renovation of Paris’s historic Grand Palais is to be somewhat less grand following government intervention in the project, The Art Newspaper reports. Costs, originally projected at $543 million, soared to $700 million, prompting the Réunion des Musées Nationaux-Grand Palais (RMN-GP), the government entity which oversees the structure, to step in and pare the scheme back to fit the original budget.

The initial plans for remodeling, announced in February 2018, would have reconfigured the site and required extensive excavation of the grounds surrounding the 120-year-old structure as well as its interior. Among the changes originally put forth by French-Italian architects LAN (Local Architecture Network) were a new entrance and an internal “pedestrian street” that would connect the different parts of the massive building, which hosts the popular annual fairs Paris Photo and the Foire Internationale d’Art Contemporain (FIAC).

The rising costs were to have been offset by a

Tiny converted lodge gets a grand design style makeover in Guiseley

Tuesday, 29th September 2020, 9:23 am

Updated Tuesday, 29th September 2020, 9:28 am
The old gardener’s lodge is now a grand design

Having successfully renovated and self-built before, Stuart Marquis and his partner, Beverley Poole, couldn’t resist the opportunity to do it all again. So when a converted Victorian lodge next to their own home came up for auction, they began dreaming of how it could be transformed and decided to bid.

The hammer came down in their favour and the result is a remarkable “grand design” that retains the characterful old building while adding a 21st century touch. It is now for sale with a price tag of £525,000 with Hardisty and Co.

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 23, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — The global smart home appliances market size is anticipated to reach USD 92.72 billion by2027, according to a new report by Grand View Research, Inc., expanding at a CAGR of 14.1% from2020 to 2027. The market is likely to witness significant growth in the years to come on account of the growing geriatric population, improved M-2-M communication systems, new product development, and improvements in the Internet of Things (IoT).

Technology is responsible for providing effective energy saving solutions, which are backed by various initiatives and favorable reforms undertaken by the government bodies in developed regions, including Europe and North America. High-end devices, coupled with technologically advanced features, such as IP and Bluetooth, render a large proportion of the overall population with unaffordable technology, which, in turn, is expected to drive demand.

Grand Designs NZ: Extreme Piha beach-house build highlights stress of underestimating cost

REVIEW: There’s a lovely story at the start of this Grand Designs NZ episode – Joseph and Sooz Hardie used to jump the fence with a bottle of bubbles to sit outside an old bach on the clifftop at Piha.

They would lap up the view and pretend it was theirs. And then, lo and behold, the bach came on the market, and it did become their home. (See, dreams can come true.)

Six years later they demolish it to build a better one on the “perilously steep site”. This time, the living areas will be on the lower level, so there will be a flow out to the landscape, because Sooz says the old house felt more like an apartment, with no connection to the “whenua”.

Joseph and Sooz Hardie demolished an old bach that was their first home to build a stunning contemporary home high above Piha beach. They are pictured with Grand Designs NZ presenter Chris Moller (right).

So much more than a home reno show: The simple joys of Grand Designs NZ

Grand Designs NZ is back with a new season that promises more incredible homes, optimistic owners, and the easy charm of presenter Chris Moller.

Grand Designs NZ kicked off its sixth season with a reminder that most of us will never have six million dollars to transform a heritage building into our house of dreams, and I’m not even mad about it. It’s impossible to be angry at Grand Designs NZ, the fascinating series that follows the tumultuous journeys of ambitious New Zealanders who are building their ideal home in innovative and creative ways.

Last night’s episode focused on the transformation of Auckland’s historic Farmers Department Store Grand Tearoom, an enormous and beloved space that now sits on the top floor of the Heritage Hotel. The tearoom was purchased in 2018 for $2.5 million by Steve and Bridget Varney, who plan on transforming the empty heritage-listed building into a New

Glenview Community Ice Center unveils $30M renovation at grand opening

The grand opening for the 86,000-square-foot, $30.1 million renovated Glenview Community Ice Center that was 15 months in the making took place Saturday.

The center at 1851 Landwehr Road nearly doubles the size of the original 45,000-square-foot facility, which was built in 1972 and underwent a smaller-scale renovation in 2008.

A second 200-foot by 85-foot NHL-sized rink with seating for 500 spectators was added to the extensively renovated facility. The original NHL-sized rink, which now seats 150 spectators, and a 90-foot by 60-foot studio rink were retained and were also part of the renovation.

“It’s an extremely exciting day,” said Michael McCarthy, executive director of the Glenview Park district. “So many people worked so hard to pull this construction project off under extreme circumstances.

“And now it’s a reality.”

COVID-19 restrictions that started in March caused supply-chain and worksite issues, but despite those obstacles, the project was completed on time
