Dawn French has revealed she and ex-husband Sir Lenny Henry were forced to have police officers live in their home due to “continual racism”.

Henry, who was knighted in 2015, has often spoken about the racism he has suffered in his life, and French, who was married to him for 25 years, has now spoken of the shock of witnessing it first-hand.

Speaking on Times Radio, she said: “I had never experienced anything like that until I met him and I just couldn’t believe the continual racism that happens in his life, the casual, insidious racism which I found really offensive.

French hostage freed in Mali arrives home in France

PARIS — A 75-year-old French aid worker held hostage for four years by Islamic extremists in Mali was reunited Friday with her grandchildren in France, as relatives also welcomed home two Italians and a Malian politician freed with her this week.

They were released earlier this week, days after the Malian government freed nearly 200 Islamic militants in an apparent prisoner exchange.

But the homecoming was muted by the announcement later Friday that a Swiss woman held captive by the same extremist group had been killed. Swiss officials said Beatrice Stoeckli, whose release they had quietly been trying to negotiate since she was kidnapped four years ago, was killed about a month ago. They said they received the information from French authorities, who were notified by “the recently released French hostage.”

“It was with great sadness that I learned of the death of our fellow citizen,” Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio

Artisan home on Lake Independence has French accent

As the owners of Alma Homes, Kirsten Erickson and Ethan Kindseth have designed and built a lot of houses. But their current home on Lake Independence is the first one they’ve built for themselves.

“We’ve remodeled but never built before,” said Erickson, who studied architecture and specializes in design.

Building a house from scratch wasn’t on their radar, in part because they wanted to stay in Independence and the Orono school district. Erickson said she would only move if they could find a place on the lake. Then a 5-acre lakeshore lot “fell into our lap,” she said.

The couple built a modern French country lake home, which will be open to the public during the Parade of Homes Artisan Home Tour, which showcases 22 distinctive homes, both new and remodeled, throughout the Twin Cities.

“It’s very inspired by our travels, especially in Europe,” said Erickson of the home, which

PARIS (AP) — A 75-year-old French aid worker held hostage for four years by Islamic extremists in Mali was reunited Friday with her grandchildren in France, as relatives also welcomed home two Italians and a Malian politician freed with her this week.

They were released earlier this week, days after the Malian government freed nearly 200 Islamic militants in an apparent prisoner exchange.

But later Friday the Swiss government said a Swiss national held captive by the same extremist group had been killed. The foreign ministry didn’t name the woman, It said it had received the information from French authorities, who were notified by “the recently released French hostage.”

Earlier Friday, 75-year-old French aid worker Sophie Petronin descended from a plane at the Villacoublay military airport southwest of Paris, where she was greeted by French President Emmanuel Macron.

VILLACOUBLAY, France (Reuters) – French aid worker Sophie Petronin, released from captivity in the Mali desert, walked down the steps of a military plane that brought her home on Friday and was swept up in the embrace of family members she had not seen for four years.

French President Emmanuel Macron, at the foot of the steps to greet 75-year-old Petronin, exchanged a few words with her but then stood aside while family members, some in tears, formed a tight huddle around Petronin, hugging her and each other.

Petronin was one of four hostages being held by jihadist militants who were released this week. She had been kidnapped near the desert city

This Renovation Takes a French Flat From ’70s Spirit to Modern Minimalism

Located in the quiet, small town of Asnières-sur-Seine, just a few kilometers from the center of Paris, this 807-square-foot two-bedroom apartment initially had a ’70s aesthetic. To envision what it would look like after a makeover required a high dose of imagination.

“I had been looking for a new place for about a year when I saw the real estate ad for this apartment,” remembers the 40-year-old owner Hélène, who works in fashion and lives here with her 11-year-old son. “I scheduled the visit for the next day and liked the place. It was very different from what it is now: It was filled with furniture and had carpet on the floor, but I really loved the soft and quiet atmosphere.”
