Apple’s “Hi, Speed” has come and gone. And we officially have four new iPhones: iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. All support 5G, are powered by the A14 Bionic processor and feature camera improvements. The launch is a bit more segmented than in years past, though.

iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro will go up for preorder at $799 and $999, respectively, this Friday, October 16 with a launch on October 23. The $699 iPhone 12 mini and $1,099 iPhone 12 Pro Max will go up for order on November 6, with deliveries starting on November 13.

There’s also a $99 HomePod Mini, which goes up for preorder on November 6. There’s a lot to unpack here, though, with MagSafe for the iPhone and much more.

Apple seems quite bullish about 5G on the iPhones, noting that it will bring big new features

2021 Design & Construction Week Moves to Virtual Event

After evaluating multiple safety and travel concerns related to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA) recently announced its intention to move the 8th annual Design & Construction Week, which features the International Builders’ Show (IBS) and Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS) to a robust, all-virtual event platform.

While Design & Construction Week was originally scheduled to take place on Feb. 9-11, 2021 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla., the new all-virtual DCW 2021 will still take place the week of Feb. 8 with extended programming.

“Out of an abundance of caution and concern for the safety of our exhibitors, attendees and the thousands of onsite workers who support the premier event of the residential construction industry, we feel the only prudent course is to make this year’s show a virtual event,” says NAHB chairman

Here’s how to watch Google’s big virtual event from home

It’s been a busy month, and next on the agenda for virtual phone announcement events is Google with its Sept. 30 “Launch Night In.” Google previously unveiled the Pixel 4A budget phone in August, confirming on the same day the existence of its next flagship, the Pixel 5, and the upcoming Pixel 4A 5G, both of which will have support for 5G. The invitation for Google’s September event confirmed that “new Pixel phones” would be among the products unveiled, along with a new Chromecast and a new Nest-branded smart speaker.

Apple’s ‘Time Flies’ event, Siri improvements, and the latest Big Sur beta on the AppleInsider podcast

Apple’s big September event has been revealed with the phrase “Time Flies.” We go through the products rumored to be released, discuss very welcome new patent filings for future Siri improvements, give an update that Epic Games App Store policy battle, and unexpected thoughts on macOS Big Sur beta.

Apple has announced a special event that will air on September 15, at 10 A.M. Pacific time. After weeks of rumors surrounding the “Apple Watch Series 6” and updated iPad Air, we believe these two products may be announced at next week’s event with the possibility of seeing Apple’s location tracker device “AirTags”. You’ll notice something missing there – this event won’t include the “iPhone 12.”

Looking further ahead, newly revealed patent filings show how Apple is trying to cut down on the number of times Siri activates when you didn’t mean it to. Methods could include checking for eye contact,

Virtual event to offer inspiration to build the next low-cost green homes

Simple and affordable ideas can be most effective when designing a house that allows owners to lower energy costs, live comfortably and help the environment.

Geelong homebuyers can learn how the owners of some of Australia’s best environmental homes have achieved their sustainability goals.

Belmont resident Fleur Pitman is joining more than 150 people offer virtual tours of their homes for Sustainable House Day on September 20.

Ms Pitman said the most important design element was orientating the house to face north and reducing a house’s footprint by creating more multi-function spaces like study-bedrooms and design entertainment units to eliminate separate media rooms.

“People don’t need to spend more money, they need to choose how to spend their money and what is that contributing to,” she said.
