A five-year-old boy discovered his dead mum at home after the coronavirus lockdown had “broken” her.

Archie found his mum Katie Simms, 32, unresponsive in their living room in Kettering on 28 September.

Katie had “shut herself away” after her older brother Barry Gunn killed himself in 2015, according to her sibling David.

Police have confirmed they’re not treating her death as suspicious and are currently preparing a report for the coroner.

David, 40, told Northants Live: “And I think Covid broke her to be honest.

“She couldn’t get to visit my mum, because she’s got breathing difficulties so couldn’t leave the house to visit.

“My dad was diagnosed with bowel cancer, he’s now got a tumour so can’t travel, so lockdown has basically broke us all.”

David said he felt

The county did not say when the outbreak started, but it announced five of the nine deaths among residents on Wednesday. The outbreak is responsible for nearly half of the 19 total COVID-19 deaths in Santa Cruz County.

Of those who tested positive at the facility, 46 are residents and 15 are staff, public health officials said. The county has recorded 2,535 total coronavirus cases, according to the county’s COVID-19 data dashboard.

“Our condolences go out to these individuals’ families and friends,” Santa Cruz County officials said in a statement.

Officials with the California Department of Public Health have “conducted multiple site visits to provide assessments and recommendations” since the outbreak began, county public health officials said.

Former California cop charged with thefts from dead man’s home while on duty

SANTA ANA  — A former Orange County sheriff’s deputy has been charged with burglarizing the home of a dead man, prosecutors said Thursday.

Steve Hortz, a 12-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Department, was called to a Yorba Linda home on July 20 to check on the welfare of the owner. He discovered the man, who was in his 70s, had died of natural causes, according to a statement from the county district attorney’s office.

Home surveillance video showed Hortz breaking into the home about a week later while on duty and in uniform, authorities alleged. He left the door open and returned twice more in August in civilian clothes, authorities contend.

The stolen goods included ceiling fans and safes containing 15 guns, prosecutors alleged.

The Sheriff’s Department began investigating after the probate attorney handling the homeowner’s estate reported items were missing and provided the surveillance video, authorities said.

Breaking news (Photo: The Republic)

A Flagstaff police officer was found dead in his home Saturday from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to officials.

Officers from Flagstaff Police Department were performing a welfare check on Ofc. Jarrett Shughart’s home when they found him, according to a news release from department spokesperson Sgt. Charles Hernandez. He was 31 years old.

No other people were in the home at the time, Hernandez said. Shughart’s death was being investigated by the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office, he said.

Shughart was just shy of his six-year anniversary with the department on Oct. 13, according to Hernandez. He served as a field training officer and was most recently assigned “in a light-duty capacity” because of a work-related injury, Hernandez said.

“At this time the family requests privacy; funeral arrangements are unknown at this time,” Hernandez said. “The City of Flagstaff and the members of
