Braxton Hicks Contractions or True Labor Pains?

How do you get to labor and delivery? Practice, practice, practice. You might not be ready for the baby just yet (still haven’t picked out that nursery color?), but your body is certainly gearing up for the big day — and you’re reminded of this each time you feel your uterus tightening up.

What are Braxton Hicks contractions?

Braxton Hicks contractions are a bit like a dress rehearsal: Your uterine muscles are flexing in preparation for the big job they’ll have to do in the near future. Keep in mind that while they can be hard to distinguish from the real thing, they’re not efficient enough to push your baby out the way actual labor contractions are.

What causes Braxton Hicks contractions?

Your pregnancy hormones are hard at work, sending messages to your body to (very slowly) start the process of childbirth.

When do Braxton Hicks contractions start?

Baltic sovereigns face growth and fiscal shock, but GDP contractions are set to be among smallest in eurozone – Emerging Europe

Weaker public finances and the shock to economic growth, together with their potential impact on medium-term growth and fiscal dynamics, are the main channels through which the coronavirus pandemic can affect the sovereign credit ratings of the Baltic States, Fitch Ratings says in a new report.

However, the report notes that Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania are much better positioned to weather the current shock than they were during the global financial crisis; a period of multi-notch downgrades.

The economies of the three Baltic States are being hit hard by the pandemic. As small, open economies with relatively large transport sectors, they are vulnerable to the sharp fall in external demand, while domestic containment measures have hit household consumption, industrial production and what were until recently rapidly growing tourism sectors. However, the relatively quick easing of containment measures and fiscal stimulus packages have supported economic activity meaning the contractions in GDP

Rich Economies Set to Recover More Quickly From Covid-19 Contractions

By Paul Hannon

China and other rich countries will suffer less economic damage from the coronavirus pandemic than previously feared, according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, but the global public health emergency will exact a higher toll on the economies of poor countries.

The Paris-based research body Wednesday said the global economy will contract less sharply this year than it thought likely in June, but warned that the recovery is set to slow from this month and remain vulnerable to fresh outbreaks. The OECD doesn’t expect a vaccine to be widely available until the end of next year.

“Momentum appears to be plateauing and confidence remains weak,” said Laurence Boone, the OECD’s chief economist.

In the latest of its quarterly reports on the global economy, the research body said it now expects the U.S. economy to shrink by 3.8% this year, having forecast a decline of 7.3%

Give it to me straight: What do contractions really feel like?

Guys, there is so much to look forward to about pregnancy and birth: The adorable socks, that thing babies do when they grab your finger, and, you know finally getting that other living thing out of your stomach.

But wait…that requires actually pushing something the size of a watermelon out of your vagina (*cringe*). How the heck is that supposed to happen, you ask? Contractions. Here’s the lowdown on those ever-so-helpful (but ultimately painful) baby-pusher-outers.

I need a refresher: What are contractions?

“A contraction is just a squeezing of a muscle,” says Dr John Thoppil, an gynae at River Place OB/GYN and an assistant professor at Texas A&M University’s College of Medicine.

When you’re having a baby, that muscle in question is your uterus – and the harder that muscle squeezes, the more it hurts, says Dr Thoppil.

That muscle is

Pregnant Jade Roper Is ‘Worried’ She’s Having Preterm Contractions

Asking for advice. Pregnant Jade Roper revealed she’s “worried” about heading into preterm labor ahead of baby No. 3.

“Anyone who’s had preterm labor contractions, can you tell me what they felt like please?” the Bachelor alum, 33, wrote on her Friday, September 18, Instagram Story. “The last two days I’ve had painful lower uterine contractions throughout times of the day. I’ve read to empty your bladder, drink water and lie on your left side for an hour, which I’ve been doing and it’s been helping. Been drinking tons of water. But they come back.”

The “Mommies Tell All” podcast cohost went on to write that she was planning to contact her “amazing” midwife despite her reluctance to do so.

Airline coronavirus contractions leave Vermont travelers with fewer options

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – The coronavirus has slowed down business and leisure travel nationwide, and even with some economic recovery, air travel has not bounced back. That includes the Burlington airport, where the number of flights has dropped by 70 percent and has meant fewer options for people looking to fly.

An empty airport reflects the decline in travel during the coronavirus pandemic

“Flights were not what they were a year ago. Flights are down substantially,” said Gene Richards, director of aviation at the Burlington International Airport. He says they normally see around 9,000 travelers a week this time of the year. Now, they are seeing around 3,000.

Despite the low numbers, no airlines have pulled out of Burlington. “The good news is that many airports our size have lost all service and we actually have — all the airlines are still here and still flying,” Richards said.

But he

GDP contractions: Modi govt. did nothing to stop slide, says Chidambaram

Former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram on Monday said the provisional estimates for the first quarter of April to June didn’t come as a surprise as the Narendra Modi government ‘did nothing’ to stop the slide.

Most parts of the first quarter had seen a freeze in the economic activity under lockdown beginning March 25 because of the pandemic.

“The GDP reduces by 24%. The worst in independent India’s history. Unfortunately, the Govt ignored the warnings,” former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi said in a separate tweet and tagged his own video of March 17 in which he predicted “an economic tsunami and large scale devastation”.

“The estimates do not come as a surprise to us. They should be a matter of surprise to the government that was seeing ‘green shoots’ on several days during the first quarter. They should also be a matter of shame to the government that did nothing

10 countries that have seen the largest GDP contractions

As per data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, India has recorded a GDP drop of 23.9 per cent, in the period April-June 2020. This is the worst contraction since India started reporting GDP data in 1996.

This has been corroborated by a graph that the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) chief economist, Gita Gopinath posted on Twitter, which shows that India saw the sharpest contraction among the G-20 nations.

India also saw one of the world’s strictest lockdown imposed in March, which has been extended multiple times since then. These have stalled economic activity and have led to the country’s economy being in the doldrums.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had earlier said that such a contraction is the result of an Act of God, inviting much trolling both from outside and within the party. India’s chief economic advisor, K Subramanian, however, has said that the contraction is
