Henderson Country Club golf course sold; owner eyes improvements

CLOSE

With a toast of champagne and expressions of thanks, members of the Henderson Country Club last week celebrated the sale of the golf course to one of its members.

With it, club advocates and staff hope to see the golf course rebound and recapture some of its previous popularity and remain in operation for years to come.

“Thank you for your support,” Charles Morris, who closed on the purchase of the 18-hole, 142-acre course on Tuesday, said during a celebration at the club’s upstairs banquet room.

“We appreciate what you’re doing,” Eric Williams, who has been president of the club’s board of directors, replied.

Tour a New Jersey Kitchen with a “Men’s Club Aesthetic”

Tudor homes are as famously dark and moody as the late-medieval British epoch in which the architecture was born—but that’s just the way the owner of this Montclair, New Jersey, abode likes it. “He’s an old-school guy, so we came up with a men’s club aesthetic,” says his designer, Birgitte Pearce, who is originally from Denmark. “A timeless kitchen doesn’t have to be white!”

The client has a basement workshop “that’s his palace,” Pearce says, and one goal was to bring back the basement stairs. The new stairwell’s line of walnut dowels with brass standoffs ended up as muse for the entire remodeling project. Now, the living metal supplies its burnished charms everywhere, from the drawer pulls to the range hood.

Carrying these tones throughout the house allowed the designer to visually connect the adjacent rooms without opening up walls, a move that would have left the Tudor bereft of

Kitchen renovation at Ulbrich Boys and Girls Club allows for new programs

WALLINGFORD — Children at the Ulbrich Boys and Girls Club can soon have access to expanded cooking classes and more space for craft activities thanks to the renovation of the clubhouse’s kitchen.

A grand opening is scheduled for Sept. 30 at 9:30 a.m. to show off the extent of the work, which transformed the kitchen with new tiles and countertops, plenty of additional cabinet space, fresh paint and new appliances. The upgraded flooring also extends throughout the game room, office and the computer lab.

“It looks like a whole new club,” said Resource Development and Marketing Officer Don Crouch. “ … it definitely brightened up the space and gave it a much needed facelift, considering a lot of it is piece mealed together over the years since 1995.”

The kitchen has already seen some use through the club’s summer camp, but once the Coronavirus restrictions on their capacity are lifted,

Syracuse University hopes Carrier Dome renovation allows students to use it as study space, use Club 44 as a classroom

Syracuse, N.Y. — With large spaces at a premium because of the coronavirus pandemic, Syracuse Vice President and Chief Facilities Officer Pete Sala said Syracuse University is hoping that the school’s Carrier Dome renovation will allow students to utilize the space to study and even take classes.

Sala dropped the interesting study space idea during a teleconference with reporters to provide an update on the project as it heads into its final two weeks. Sala said the deadline for the project remains Sept. 18, eight days before the school is set to host Georgia Tech in football in the first competition in the new building. He noted that remains a tight deadline but expressed his belief the school would hit it.

This year’s portion of the renovation includes a new roof, center-hung scoreboard, videoboards, sound system and improvements to better comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The school was
