Volvo Car Open tennis tournament will press on during major stadium renovation | Volvo Car Open

Canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic last April, the Volvo Car Open tennis tournament plans to return to action in 2021, tournament director Bob Moran says.

But it will do so without use of Volvo Car Stadium, which will undergo an extensive renovation as soon as City of Charleston permitting allows. For the 2021 tournament, the Volvo Car Open will construct a temporary stadium on the Althea Gibson Club Court, which will provide seating for up to 3,000 spectators for the WTA tournament on Daniel Island.

Work on the renovated Volvo Car Stadium should be completed by the fall of 2021, making it available when the Volvo Car Open celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2022, dating back to its days as the Family Circle Cup on Hilton Head Island.

“We are beyond excited with what this state of the art, world-class facility will become as a result of this renovation,”

80-year-old rescues man from sinking car, years after saving 2 people from a burning home

When Steve Montelongo saw a car sinking in a canal, he jumped into action to save the driver’s life — just like he did nearly 20 years ago, when he rescued two elderly people from their burning home.

On Thursday, the 80-year-old was driving his granddaughter home from a dentist appointment in Modesto, California, when they spotted a car down in a canal. He pulled over, and while there were other people looking down into the water, they weren’t doing anything. Montelongo jumped into the canal, and yanked open the driver’s door, which was unlocked. With water now rushing into the car, he pulled the driver out to safety. The man, who appeared to have a medical episode before the crash, was not injured.

“I don’t consider myself a hero,” Montelongo told KOVR. “I was just a fella that got put in the right place at the right time.” In

Finding a legal driver to take car home no easy task: Olmsted Township Police Blotter

OLMSTED TOWNSHIP, Ohio

Warrant: Stearns Road

An officer stopped a car at 1:27 a.m. Oct. 4 on Stearns Road because the owner showed an open warrant out of Florida. He also learned that the motorist was driving on a suspended license.

Florida authorities told Olmsted Township officers that they should just tell the driver about the warrant, as he was out of the pickup radius. The driver was cited and given the option to have a friend take possession of the car rather than have it towed.

When the friend arrived, however, she had an open warrant for her arrest through North Olmsted. That city’s police arrived shortly to pick her up.

Eventually, enough people — without warrants — arrived and drove the two cars away.

Juvenile complaint: Tuttle Road

Police went to the pond area on Tuttle Road at 6:26 p.m. Oct. 3. A caller said he had seen

This Battered iPad Fell Off A Car At 50mph

An iPad mini that fell off a car travelling at high speed and smashed into pieces was – incredibly – still able to report its location to its owner.

Brand-protection specialist, Stuart Fuller, heard something hit the back of his car on a dark country lane and assumed it was a twig falling off a tree. Unluckily for Fuller, it was in fact the iPad mini that he’d accidentally left on top of his car.

Fuller, also chairman of non-league football club Lewes FC in England, was driving home from the club on Tuesday evening when he absent-mindedly left the iPad on top of the car before getting in. He managed to drive almost two miles up steep hills and around tight corners before the iPad mini finally fell off on the outskirts of Lewes.

At first,

UK watchdog proposes ban on car, home insurance “loyalty penalties”

Adds more detail

LONDON, Sept 22 (Reuters)Britain’s Financial Conduct Authority said on Tuesday it was proposing to stop insurers from charging more to repeat car and home insurance customers than to new clients.

When a customer renews their home or motor insurance policy, they would be paying no more than they would if they were new to their provider through the same sales channel, such as online, the FCA said.

“The FCA estimates that its proposals will save consumers 3.7 billion pounds ($4.73 billion) over 10 years,” said Christopher Woolard, the FCA’s interim chief executive.

It singled out “price walking” or complex pricing practices that allow insurers to raise prices for consumers who renew their car and home insurance policies year after year.

The aim is to stop loyal customers being penalised, the FCA said on Tuesday.

It identified 6 million policyholders paying high or very high margins
