El Paso police arrested a man accused of threatening to cut off another man’s finger over a debt during a home invasion on the East Side.
Police Department Gang Unit investigators arrested James Daniel Badajosa on Sunday night, hours after a home invasion at an apartment in the 10500 block of Ashwood Drive near Montwood Mall on Yarbrough Drive, police said.
Police arrested Badajosa, 24, on a charge of burglary of habitation, a police news release states.
About 2 p.m. Sunday, Badajosa allegedly forced his way into an apartment and assaulted 24-year-old Adrian Gonzalez, police said.
Badajosa allegedly used a knife to threaten to cut off one of Gonzalez’s fingers over a debt before stealing several items and leaving, police said. The nature of the debt was not disclosed.
Badajosa, of the 6000 block of Agua Azul Place in Agua Dulce, an unincorporated community east of Horizon City, is being held at the El Paso County Jail Downtown under a $250,000 bond. He remained jailed as of Tuesday.
In 2018, Badajosa pleaded guilty to delivery of marijuana under 5 pounds and was sentenced to six months in prison, according to El Paso County court records.
