WESTLAKE, Ohio

Vehicle stolen: Fernwood Drive

Officers at 7 a.m. Sept. 28 responded to a Fernwood Drive home regarding a missing SUV. Officers learned that during the overnight hours, someone had entered the rear door to the house, which had inadvertently been left unlocked.

The perpetrator took car keys from a nearby tabletop and used the keys to steal a Mitsubishi Outlander, which officers entered into police databases as stolen.

Suspected drugs: Center Ridge Road

A man called Westlake police at 11:45 a.m. Sept. 26 to report that a man was down on the ground on Center Ridge Road near King James Parkway. Onlookers were trying to help him.

Officers arrived to find the 23-year-old Euclid resident leaning against a signal box and slurring his speech. As paramedics assessed the man’s condition, officers discovered that he possessed suspected marijuana, syringes, a suspected narcotic and other drug paraphernalia, according to police.

Westlake sent the suspected drugs to a crime lab for analysis, and they may consider charges after learning the results.

Officers also advised the man to take care of several warrants that were issued in his name before a rescue squad took the man to an area hospital for treatment.

Officers at 5:20 p.m. the same day encountered the man again after a concerned caller reported that someone was walking in the street at the intersection of Schwartz and Crocker roads. This time, police arrested the man and took him to the Cuyahoga County Justice Center on an outstanding felony warrant for a probation violation stemming from a prior drug charge.

Heroin: Detroit Road

Officers at 5 a.m. Sept. 23 responded to the intersection of Detroit and Crocker roads regarding a woman who appeared to be disoriented.

Officers found the woman standing in the lanes of traffic. She said she was stranded in the area and did not know what to do. As RTA buses were not running, the officers offered to give her a ride back toward Cleveland, where she was headed.

But after checking her identity, officers arrested the 26-year-old Parma Heights woman on a felony drug warrant issued by Bedford police. Before transporting her to Bedford police custody, Westlake officers discovered that she possessed a small amount of suspected heroin, which was sent to a lab for analysis.

OVI: Columbia Road

Officers at 7:45 a.m. Sept. 24 responded to a two-car crash at the intersection of Columbia and Detroit roads.

An uninvolved motorist had pulled up nearby and started yelling for the officers. Officers determined that the man was offering assistance, but he slurred his speech and was not making sense. The man became uncooperative when the officers became suspicious that he had had too much to drink.

Officers arrested the 54-year-old Cleveland man for operating a vehicle while intoxicated. The man tested over 3½ times the legal limit, according to police. He was charged with his fifth OVI violation.

Loaded gun and marijuana seized: Sperry Boulevard

An officer at 3:30 p.m. Sept. 24 stopped a vehicle in the parking lot of the Super 8 Hotel for a traffic violation.

Officers suspected drug activity and found a semi-automatic handgun in the car, along with loaded magazines for several other guns. They confiscated the ammunition and handgun, along with suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Evidence in the case involving a 40-year-old Lorain resident will be presented to a Cuyahoga County grand jury.
