The Best Home Security Systems In 2020, From Ring To SimpliSafe

According to the FBI, there’s a burglary about once every 30 seconds somewhere in the United States, which is no doubt why so many people equip their homes with a security system. In the past, getting a security system was an elaborate process that often involved an in-home consultation from a security company like ADT or Brinks, followed by a visit from professional installers. These days, the best home security systems — often called DIY home security systems because you can install them yourself — are inexpensive and easy to set up.

While the most popular security systems are of the DIY variety these days, that doesn’t mean that your actual home monitoring needs to be DIY. Yes, you can self-monitor many modern security kits for free — you are alerted to break-ins via notifications on your phone, and you get to decide how to respond. But most of these

Cloud security is a major area for focus in the data protection sector and many are now discussing the increased risks of the home office as companies need to understand perhaps all the technology enablements in their employees home offices.

A few key questions to reflect upon: what are the risks of having multiple users in

Fewer paychecks, less spending, threat to Social Security

Paul Brandus, Opinion columnist
Published 5:00 a.m. ET Sept. 22, 2020

Millions must choose between working at home while watching the kids and helping them with school, or giving up the job, the paycheck and the career.

We’ve reached 200,000 Americans dead of COVID-19 in eight months — nearly half the U.S. death toll in World War II, which lasted over 45 months for America. As if that isn’t awful enough, damage from the pandemic keeps piling up in other ruinous ways. It’s all connected, meaning that one bad thing can make something else worse.

Case in point: With schools now underway, 4.3 million workers might have to quit their jobs to take care of children learning from home. That’s according to research by Brevan Howard, an asset management firm, which says if these workers were counted as unemployed, they’d add 2.6 percentage points to the unemployment rate, standing at

Congress should include practical, easy improvements to Social Security programs in next CR

Recent reports indicate Speaker Pelosi and Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin have reached an agreement to enact a clean Continuing Resolution (CR) to keep the government funded beyond Sept. 30. A clean CR means the legislation will not have any “poison pills” attached to it, but even clean CRs typically have anomalies or adjustments for each of the federal agencies to deal with practical issues facing the agencies. The Trump administration has been reported to have a list of several anomalies it would like to see included in the CR, and the House and Senate appropriations committees are likely developing lists of possible adjustments to include in the CR.

Congress should add two specific adjustments to the CR to improve the administration of the programs run by the Social Security Administration (SSA). First, Congress should

Whether you’re concerned about theft or want to check in on a mischievous pet, home security cameras provide notifications and peace of mind. Even better, a security camera doesn’t have to break the bank.

While it’s great that there are plenty of excellent options to choose from, with devices that offer features such as two-way communication, night vision, cloud storage, motion tracking and HD video for top-notch video quality, it can feel daunting to sift through everything out there to find a good match for the wireless security camera system you may have in mind, especially if that solution includes multiple cameras.
