Microsoft Flight Simulator Patch 1.8.3.0 released, brings CPU and GPU performance improvements

Microsoft-Flight-Simulator-brand-new-1

Microsoft and Asobo have released a new performance patch for Microsoft Flight Simulator. According to the teams, patch 1.8.3.0 brings a number of CPU and GPU performance improvements.

Going into more details, this latest update tweaks CPU thread priorities to reduce interruption of frame critical threads. Furthermore, it optimizes loading system to reduce overall loading times, as well as heavy airport scenes impact on CPU. In addition, it reduces the amount of GPU overdraw to improve GPU performance.

What this basically means is that the game will be less taxing on most PC configurations. So yeah, while these CPU improvements are not up to what we expect to see when Asobo adds support for DX12, they are definitely welcome.

Horizon Zero Dawn’s latest PC update offers even more improvements to gameplay and performance

It’s only been just over a week since Guerrilla Games’ previous update to Horizon Zero Dawn on PC, but those plucky Dutch go-getters are right back at it again with yet another magic bag of tweaks, fixes, and updates. Announced earlier today in a Reddit post, the update – which is available right now – aims to address ‘additional crashes’, add controller rumble toggle, and offer the option to display black side bars in cinematics when playing in ultrawide.

The previous patch targeted some significant crash issues, like the game occasionally crashing when players tried to create a new save when their save slots were full up. This latest patch seems to focus on other specific but notably common issues, such as Aloy’s hair not displaying correctly with the game running above 30fps.

Other notable fixes include fixes to flickering textures in snowy environments, resolution fixes when changing from windowed

Oculus Quest 2 VR headset launches for $299, with 2K/90Hz performance

The Oculus Quest 2 is here. Announced Wednesday at Facebook Connect, it builds upon the untethered appeal of Facebook’s original Oculus Quest, whose freedom of movement came with performance limitations. Oculus Quest 2 brings important improvements—most notably, 2K displays running at 90Hz.

While many details of Facebook’s new Oculus Quest 2 headset leaked out early, what we didn’t know was the price: $299, a significantly cheaper option versus the $399 Oculus charged for the Facebook Quest. Mark Zuckerberg, the chief executive of Facebook, introduced the Quest 2 by identifying the $299 price point. But there will apparently be two models:  the $299 model with 64GB of storage, and a more expensive $399, 256GB model, according to Road2VR.com, which received a briefing on the Quest 2 news. Preorders will begin October 13.

Front Yard Residential: Stock Performance Lagging Fundamental Improvements (NYSE:RESI)

Operation Seems Fine

The SFR as an asset class is showing resiliency and Front Yard Residential (RESI) is no exception. August 2020 operating data continue to show a high level of collection and a continuation of strong rent growth. The major driving factor seems to be the increased demand for isolated rental space in the midst of the COVID crisis for families.

Both rent growth on renewals and positive re-leasing spread contribute to the overall rent growth. The high level of collection is most likely helped by all the economic stimulus packages, but the degree of which is a wildcard. The management commented that they haven’t surveyed their tenants on their current job status, and the management doesn’t think it’s appropriate to ask their tenants directly about whether they are paying rent with cheques from the government on the Q2-2020 earnings call. However, on average about one-third of the properties
