Council Hears About Improvements at 5 Plainfield Intersections

PLAINFIELD, NJ — City Council members and residents on Monday evening’s Zoom call heard a presentation from officials that highlighted updates and changes coming to five intersections in Plainfield. Crash data at each of the intersections was provided in addition to what the changes at each site will entail.

Ray Sullivan, representing Union County’s Division of Engineering, introduced the infrastructure project. The county is working in cooperation with the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA), New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT), the Federal Highway Administration, and Michael Baker International.

NJTPA’s Christine Mittman said she manages the local safety and high risk rural roads programs. The local safety program started in 2005, and has provided over $98 million in funding for roadway construction. Locations are screened for high crash frequencies, severe crash injuries, and specific crash types.
