Sask. NDP promises improvements to long-term care homes

The Saskatchewan NDP has committed to strengthening standards in the province’s long term care homes.

NDP candidate for Saskatoon Fairview Vicki Mowat said at an event Tuesday that the COVID-19 pandemic has been a stark reminder of the importance of adequate staffing in long term care homes.

“We’ve seen the impacts that cuts and underfunding of long term care have had in other places across Canada,” she said. “Cuts to dignified care for seniors are a bad idea at the best of times. Right now, they’re downright dangerous.”

Mowat said the NDP is looking to bring back standards of minimum hours of care per resident that were cut in 2011 and replaced by program guidelines for special care homes in 2013.

“This would help ensure each resident has the time they need with health-care workers to stay safe, to be healthy and to live a dignified life,” Mowat said. “It

Watch: Bradley Walsh tears up over mother not being able to visit her son at care home

Bradley Walsh was overcome with emotion on Thursday’s This Morning as he discussed “upsetting” care home visitation rules.

The case in particular that reduced The Chase presenter to tears was that of Ruth who revealed in a video on the daytime show that she had not been able to visit her son Sam, who is in the later stages of Huntington’s disease, for six months.

Along with MP Liz Kendall, Walsh is backing calls for the government to change their stance on care home visit rules as many still remain closed to visitors. Ruth had reached out to Walsh on Instagram to share her story, prompting him to get on board with campaigning.

Improvements in Tayside stroke care since launch of new Ninewells unit

A new “centre for excellence” stroke unit at Ninewells Hospital has been praised after treatment in the region improved in the weeks after its launch.

A report on the hyper-acute stroke service, which was introduced at the hospital late last year, fund the percentage of patients receiving thrombolysis — medication to remove blood clots — in Ninewells increased from seven percent to around 20%.

The unit has also contributed to a reduction in “door to needle time” — the time between patients arriving in hospital and receiving thrombolysis.

The proportion of those receiving the treatment within half an hour of their arrival increased from 13% to 50%. Some 75% have been treated within one hour.

The findings are contained in a new Scottish Stroke Improvement Programme National (SSIPN) report.

Care downgrades Repco Home Finance’s loan facilities, NCDs to AA-minus

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], September 19 (ANI): Care Ratings has revised the rating of Chennai-based Repco Home Finance’s long-term loan facilities and non-convertible debentures worth Rs 1,620 crore to AA-minus with stable outlook from AA with negative outlook.
The revision factors in moderation in the company’s asset quality parameters with increase in gross non-performing assets (GNPAs) from 2.95 per cent in March 2019 to 4.33 per cent in March this year.
Historically, the GNPA levels have remained higher in June and December quarters but remained lower during September and March quarters.
However, GNPA levels continued to remain high during FY20 at above 4.2 per cent in all the four quarters.

“It is worthwhile to note that GNPA level which had witnessed notable increase post-demonetisation is yet to show improvement and currently the GNPA level has further increased,” said Care.
GNPAs witnessed some improvement in June to 4 per cent but continue
