Two North Texas boys, ages 5 and 7, had to fend for themselves for nearly a week, after their adoptive mother collapsed and died at home.

According to the local CBS-affiliate KTVT, teachers in the Forney Independent School District asked police to check on the two boys, who hadn’t been in class since Sept. 21, and whose mother couldn’t be reached.

“They knew something was not right,” Kristen Zastoupil, a spokesperson for the district said about the teachers, according to FOX 4. “They are used to communicating with this parent. And so when they didn’t get a response, they knew something was off,” Zastoupil added.

On Sunday, when officers arrived at their home in Talty, a small town 28 miles west of Dallas, they found the two brothers. They also found their mother, 71-year-old Connie Taylor, dead inside the house.

Kitchen renovation at Ulbrich Boys and Girls Club allows for new programs

WALLINGFORD — Children at the Ulbrich Boys and Girls Club can soon have access to expanded cooking classes and more space for craft activities thanks to the renovation of the clubhouse’s kitchen.

A grand opening is scheduled for Sept. 30 at 9:30 a.m. to show off the extent of the work, which transformed the kitchen with new tiles and countertops, plenty of additional cabinet space, fresh paint and new appliances. The upgraded flooring also extends throughout the game room, office and the computer lab.

“It looks like a whole new club,” said Resource Development and Marketing Officer Don Crouch. “ … it definitely brightened up the space and gave it a much needed facelift, considering a lot of it is piece mealed together over the years since 1995.”

The kitchen has already seen some use through the club’s summer camp, but once the Coronavirus restrictions on their capacity are lifted,
