The Home Depot on John F. Kennedy Parkway and Silver Grill Cafe both reported two positive cases, according to data released Wednesday by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.

Meanwhile, the Kappa Sigma fraternity had its second outbreak of the coronavirus. Eight members living in the off-campus chapter house tested positive for COVID-19 and five are listed as probable in an outbreak confirmed by the health department Sept. 3.

Researchers at University of Colorado Boulder have developed a new rapid, portable and saliva-based COVID-19 test that can return results in as little as 45 minutes.

In the fraternity’s first outbreak in late July, seven members tested positive. As a result of the second outbreak, the university is requiring all members living at the house to be tested for COVID-19.

The state considers an outbreak to be two or more cases reported within a 14-day period.

Both Home Depots in Fort Collins have now seen outbreaks of two cases among staff. The store on Magnolia Street had two employees test positive in an outbreak confirmed Aug. 24. The new outbreak, which also includes two employees, was confirmed Tuesday.

And, Silver Grill reported two employees tested positive with one employee listed as probable.

As a precaution, Silver Grill owner John Arnolfo temporarily closed the restaurant Sept. 4 after the first employee tested positive.

In a letter posted on Silver Grill’s Facebook page, Arnolfo said the employee was quarantined and recovering at home. Employees who had close contact with the individual two days prior were also quarantined.
