Oregon State AD Scott Barnes says Reser Stadium renovation project remains on schedule

Oregon State athletic director Scott Barnes joined me on the radio show this week to talk about the upcoming football season and the Reser Stadium remodel project.

Listen to the full interview here.

Barnes said the pandemic has not affected the $140 million project, which is expected to be completed in 2023 and improve the west side of the stadium.

“The donors who want to participate in this project are still there,” Barnes said. “None of this has changed.”

On out-of-control athletic department spending nationally:

“We have to get our head around this. It’s not sustainable. We have to find a way to manage it and to course-correct in some form or fashion… it’s something that is not sustainable.”

On potentially trying to make-up the canceled football game with Oklahoma State:

“That final decision hasn’t been made. We’ll look at all the options and make a decision based on what’s

Coronavirus sent the U.S. housing market for a spin this summer as demand outstripped supply—and the highly competitive environment appears to have continued into the fall.

“Normally, this last week of September is sort of a buyers’ sweet spot,”
Danielle Hale
, chief economist at Realtor.com, told Barron’s. In a typical year, September is when buyer demand decreases as home listings remain on the market, resulting in more options and less competition, she said.

But that was not the case this year. Homes spent an average of 54 days on the market nationally in September, 12 fewer days than the same month last year and three fewer than in August 2020, according to a Realtor.com study. That’s an unusual occurrence during a month when market activity normally begins to slow. This was the first year since at least 2016 when homes spent less

Health, function fuel kitchen plans today

The kitchen is a home’s hot spot. But a kitchen’s design trends aren’t trendy when its composition and construction are dictated by how people really live, says Jonas Carnemark, whose eponymous design-build firm is based in Bethesda, Maryland.

“The self-isolation caused by the coronavirus pandemic has placed a magnifying lens on home design, especially in the kitchen,” says the 33-year certified kitchen designer, as designated by the National Kitchen and Bath Association. “The kitchen isn’t just a place where people prepare and eat food. It’s the heart and hub of a home, where everyone gathers before and after meals, too.”

The NKBA’s “Living Impacts Design” research was released during the first quarter of 2020, and highlights consumers’ kitchen inclinations based on more than 750 completed industry surveys. Influential changes to kitchen design include: plans for aging in place; homeowners’ need to escape from a chaotic world; a desire to live

How to Buy a Foreclosed Home

As home prices soar in many cities, buyers may look to foreclosures to land bargains on houses. Foreclosure happens when a borrower can no longer make mortgage payments, and the lender seizes and then sells the home to recover losses.

Foreclosed homes are often sold for less than their market value.

That discount could bring a home within reach, but the financing and the home’s condition could present challenges. Before you bid on a foreclosed home, make sure you know the risks and the limitations.

Is It a Good Idea to Buy a Foreclosed Home?

Buying a foreclosure can save you some cash, but it comes with risks. If you pursue a foreclosure, it helps to have a “stomach of steel,” says David Reiss, law professor and research director of the Center for Urban Business Entrepreneurship at Brooklyn Law School.

However, we got an email this week that brought us back to those heady days of the June F-150 reveal. As it turns out, Ford engineers took an F-150 PowerBoost with Pro Power Onboard tech to a campsite in New York State with an oven, a mini fridge and a coffee maker, and they used it all to cook their meals.
