Ty Pennington Returns to Home-Improvement With HGTV’s ‘Ty Breaker’

Ty Pennington is going from “Extreme Makeover” to a more considered one.

The carpenter, who rose to prominence last decade on the TLC program “Trading Spaces” and ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” will star in the HGTV series “Ty Breaker,” which is slated to debut in early 2021. The eight-episode series will follow Pennington as helps families in need decide whether to overhaul their current property or renovate a new one.

Israelis protest outside Netanyahu’s home after bid to curb demonstrations

JERUSALEM (Reuters) – Crowds protested outside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s home on Saturday demanding he quit over his handling of COVID-19 – many angered by what they said were government attempts to use lockdown measures to stifle demonstrations.

Long lines of cars drove along the main highway to Jerusalem in a protest convoy and groups gathered on bridges and junctions in other cities, also demonstrating about corruption charges against Netanyahu – charges he denies.

The protests came a day after the government tightened COVID-19 lockdown restrictions, though parliament failed to pass one measure to restrict citizens’ protests to within 1 km (0.6 miles) of their homes.

That measure would have effectively

Mike Zimmer, The Fixer, now faces his biggest home improvement project yet

He billed himself as a “Fixer” when he was hired. Mike Zimmer came with that reputation, a football coach skilled at fixing problem areas, especially on defense.

The Fixer has tackled big projects at different times in his seven seasons in Minnesota, some of his own doing, some not. Teddy Bridgewater’s knee injury, a revolving door at quarterback, offensive coordinators coming and going. He’s managed to keep the Vikings relevant as a playoff contender through turbulence.

This project feels different. He has a whopper of a mess on his hands — and once again some of it is his own doing, some of it not. His to-do list is extensive:

Repair the offensive line after years of neglect by the front office.

Shore up the depleted defensive line.

Help Kirk Cousins regroup and find his way after a poor start.

Develop a cast of inexperienced cornerbacks.

Establish more options at

US Housing Recovery Continues In August, New Home Sales Up 4.8%

New home sales were better than expected in the United States but the growth was not evenly distributed across regions

Olivier DOULIERY

Text size

New US home sales came in well above forecasts in August with a 4.8 percent gain, as the housing market continues to recover from the coronavirus downturn, the Commerce Department said on Thursday.

August’s annualized rate of just over one million sales, seasonally adjusted, came after the upwardly revised annual rate of 965,000 sales reported in July and underscores how housing has managed to climb back from the hit taken during the Covid-19 downturn.

The growth was however not spread evenly, with month-on-month sales surging in the South 13.4 percent, and climbing 5.0 percent in the North, but declining slightly in the West and by a massive 21.4 percent in the Midwest.

“Home sales are well supported by solid demand and a favorable interest rate environment,”

Massachusetts Attorney Maura Healey said the criminal case against the former officials at Holyoke Soldiers’ Home was believed to be the first yet linked to an outbreak at a U.S. nursing facility during the pandemic.

The case against former Superintendent Bennett Walsh and former Medical Director David Clinton stemmed from a March decision to consolidate two dementia units, putting COVID-19 positive residents within feet of ones without symptoms, Healey said.

In a tribute to the victims,
